Christchurch Group has successfully obtained planning permission at Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York for a state of the art spinal injury rehabilitation unit. The award-winning centre, off Hull Road in York, currently provides rehabilitation for up to 27 people with severe brain and spinal injuries and neurological conditions including multiple sclerosis and stroke.
Lead by expert spinal injury consultant Mr Firas Jamil, the new 12-bed spinal unit will provide care and rehabilitation for some of the region’s most severely injured individuals.
Group Clinical Director, Professor Mike Barnes said,
“The new development will allow us to extend our current provision to create a leading rehabilitation centre for individuals with spinal injuries. We can support even more patients to regain their independence following catastrophic spinal injuries – a much needed service for the region which is currently underserved, with patients and families currently travelling to access the care and rehabilitation they need.”
Paul Preston, Christchurch Group chairman said,
“The extension to our existing brain injury service at Woodlands will not only increase the provision for patients with spinal injuries in Yorkshire, but will also create up to 60 new jobs to provide the rehabilitation, complex care nursing and support for patients who require round the clock attention.”
Following care in hospital following a brain injury, stroke or serious neurological illness or condition, individuals benefit from rehabilitation carried out by a team of Consultants neurologists, therapists and rehabilitation assistants to relearn crucial life skills and increase their independence before returning home.
