Physiotherapist

Grade: Band 6

Responsibilities

• To use specialised skills to provide a high standard of assessment and treatment of residents who may have diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.
• To develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
• Carry out assessments and treatments of patients with musculo-skeletal conditions requiring moderate to intense physical effort on a daily basis.
• To agree person-centred goals in partnership with residents, carers, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
• To provide specialist advice, teaching and training regarding rehabilitation management of residents on caseload.
• To work as an autonomous practitioner having mainly self-directed support and learning, and formal agreed supervision according to Christchurch Group policy.
• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of residents in your care.
• To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the residents under your management, and support other staff to do likewise.
• To formulate and deliver an individual Physiotherapy treatment programme based on extensive experience and a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using advanced clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills.
• To evaluate resident progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required.
• To use advanced clinical reasoning to predict achievable outcomes of treatment and to recommend the best course of intervention, developing comprehensive treatment plans, in conjunction with other professions and agencies.
• To communicate effectively with all key stakeholders to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of their condition.
• To use communication tools (verbal and non verbal) to gain valid informed consent with residents where there will often be barriers to effective communication e.g. loss of hearing, altered perception, expressive and receptive dysphasia, pain, fear. To have the capacity to work within a legal framework with residents who lack capacity to consent to treatment e.g. those with cognitive or speech difficulties.
• To be aware of and appropriately manage sensitive and/or complicated information. To deal sensitively with residents who may have challenging behaviour,
