Christchurch Group Clinical Director Mike Barnes flew to South America earlier this month to help set up the Asociacion Latino Americana de Rehabilitacion Neurologica – ALAREN.
Professor Barnes is a highly experienced consultant neurologist and a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, who over the last 30 years has been dedicated to the development of neurological rehabilitation throughout the UK and internationally. In 1996 he played a key role in the formation of the WFNR – World Federation for NeuroRehabilitation and today is Treasurer and part of the executive group.
ALAREN is the latest group inspired by WFNR and will be based in Panama, South America. Professor Barnes flew to Buenos Aires to meet with other leading figures in NeuroRehabilitation to establish the new group and give support and guidance. President of ALAREN is Ericka Batista and Dr Jorge Hernandez Franco, WFNR Regional Vice-President for Latin America and the Caribbean, Member at Large on WFNR Presidium, will act as ALAREN Secretary.
It is hoped that this new NeuroRehabilitation group will help stimulate discussion and encourage communication amongst professionals in this field based in South America so as to further promote initiatives and advancements in NeuroRehabilitation in this part of the world.
