Christchurch Group employee Sally Harris has been named Care Home Worker of the Year in the East Midlands Regional Great British Care Awards.
Sally, who works at Christchurch View in Northampton was nominated for the award for her commitment to developing, supporting and motivating her team and going above and beyond for the residents she cares for. As well as supporting her team, Sally is keyworker to four residents with brain injuries who have very complex needs. Sally always goes the extra mile and even found a shop which stocks Russian food so one of her residents can enjoy his favourite childhood foods.
One of 11 children, Sally has worked in the care profession for almost 30 years and for the last 7 years has also been the primary carer for her husband, David.
Sally said, “Being a carer is part of who I am – I find it very fulfilling to help others meet their potential. Being nominated for Care Home Worker of the Year was a reward in itself and when they said my name at the ceremony, it took me a few seconds before it sank in – it was unbelievable! I’ve been on cloud nine ever since.”
Professor Mike Barnes, Clinical Director at Christchurch Group said, “It’s great to see that Sally’s hard work and commitment has been recognised by the Great British Care Awards. Caring for residents with complex brain injuries can be challenging and it is staff like Sally who go the extra mile who make such a big difference to the lives of our residents.”
Sally will be attending the Great British National Care Awards in April 2015, where she will enter the National Care Home Worker of the Year Award.
Best of luck, Sally!
