After a brain injury some people do not make a good recovery, communication is not possible and they need full nursing care.

There are various stages of these conditions, which are all referred to as prolonged disorders of consciousness. When ongoing, expert help is required, Christchurch Group is able to offer a SMART assessment and further observation and assessment of levels of wakefulness and awareness. Patients will also receive rehabilitation aimed at encouraging them to emerge from PDoC. The entire interdisciplinary team may be required to manage care to prevent unnecessary complications.

When progress continues to be slow, Christchurch Group can continue to offer complex care, including managing PEG or PEJ for nutrition or hydration and medication administration.
