Guillain-Barré Syndrome Rehabilitation and Respite

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a rare and often disabling condition which gives rise to paralysis of the legs and sometimes the arms.

Sensation can be affected as well as changes in blood pressure and heart rhythm. Unfortunately, about one third of people need ventilator support as the muscles used in respiration can also be affected. Most people make a good recovery, but for some it can be a long process needing months of rehabilitation.

Our team at Woodlands in York has particular expertise in managing Guillain-Barré syndrome and this skill has now been cascaded to our other centres throughout the UK. Christchurch Group also has close links with GAIN, the Guillain-Barré Syndrome and Associated Neuropathies charity and support group.
